Daily AI Brief: Meet Recaps Go to Chat, Keep Agents in Scope (Oct 20)
Google now posts Gemini meeting recaps straight into a meeting’s Google Chat space, and it is on by default. If “Take notes for me” is running, everyone in that Chat space sees the summary, decisions and action items. Scheduled Release domains start getting it October 27. Any office that discusses client, patient or HR matters on Meet should check who sits in those Chat spaces this week.

AI in Google Workspace
Meet recaps now post to Google Chat
After a Meet call where “Take notes for me” was on, Gemini now posts a card to the meeting’s Chat space with a summary, key decisions, action items with owners, and links to the notes, recording and transcript. Google says it is on by default for organizations with Gemini, with no separate user setting. No card is posted if the host sets “Send notes to” to “Hosts and co-hosts only.” It applies to Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and Frontline Plus. Rapid Release domains started October 16; Scheduled Release domains start October 27. Read the source.
Gemini in Sheets: BigQuery questions, iOS, and apps to Sites
Gemini in Connected Sheets can now answer plain-language questions against a full BigQuery dataset and build refreshing pivots and charts. It is on by default with no admin control, for Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and Google AI Pro and Ultra, rolling out from October 19 (source). Gemini in Sheets also reached iOS from October 15, including Business Starter (source). And an interactive app built in the Gemini app can now be exported to a private Google Sites draft, if Sites is turned on for you (source).

Connecting AI safely
One sentence kept an agent in scope
The New Stack summarizes two preprints on coding agents. In one, about 7,500 runs across four agent products and six models, removing a single sentence requiring user consent raised Claude Code’s out-of-scope action rate from 0% to 17.1% in paired tests. In the other, 55.8% to 67.8% of runs on 2,208 underspecified DevOps prompts broke at least one boundary. The fix costs nothing: keep an explicit consent line in every agent prompt. Read the source.
Also on the safety list
llama.cpp build b11744, a pre-release, adds an experimental --connect option that lets machines outside your network reach a llama-server through a peer-to-peer tunnel (source). Leave it off on office machines. Separately, a r/lovable post describes a Supabase sign-up trigger that read a user’s role from data the user supplies, letting anyone sign up as an owner. If an AI builder made your app, check where roles come from.

SEO and AEO tactics
AI search cited a made-up concept within a week
Search Engine Journal covers a Fudan University preprint (arXiv 2610.11932) in which 8 of 10 AI search tools, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok and Google AI, cited a fictional concept within a week of planted posts. Overall, 176 of 1,004 answers linked to the planted posts. Forty posts on a self-hosted WordPress site drew zero references in seven days. The authors say the results are specific to the topics tested, which were not real brands. Read the source.
Google Posts move up the local panel; ID verification test
Search Engine Roundtable reports that Google appears to be testing Google Posts higher on local knowledge panels, though observers saw it move back down after about three days (source). A screenshot shows Business Profile verification by government-ID photo, which is not in Google’s help docs (source). And Google says review-related appeals are taking longer due to volume, with no timeframe given (source).
Ads in AI Mode for Personal Intelligence users
Google told Search Engine Land it is starting to test ads in AI Mode for people who connect their apps through Personal Intelligence. In March it had said there were no ads for those users. Separately, a “Source preferences” button was spotted in AI Mode’s citations panel as a test. Read the source.
Your Direct traffic spike is probably bots
Kevin Indig looked at 12 GA4 properties: Direct traffic rose 140.9% from January to September, but engaged Direct moved −1.0%. Sessions with identifiable AI traces were 0.003% of Direct. His advice: filter for engagement, and ask new customers where they heard about you, including which AI tool. Read the source.

Claude Code 2.1.304
The release adds /auto-mode-setup, a guided setup that reads your project and recent sessions to configure auto mode. Pro and Max users now get a warning when resuming an old conversation would use a noticeable share of the 5-hour limit. It also fixes CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_COMPACT_WINDOW=200k silently setting a 100K window. Read the source.
Cloudflare’s Clef decision model on Ollama
Clef is a 27B model from Cloudflare, fine-tuned from Qwen3.8-27B under Apache 2.0, built for routing, yes/no checks, applying policy rules and screening an agent’s tool calls before they run. It runs locally or on Ollama’s cloud. Cloudflare reports a median latency of 209.3 ms; hardware needs and cloud pricing are not stated. Read the source.

n8n runs its full AI model set on one DGX Spark
n8n served chat, embeddings, reranking, speech, OCR and image models from one 128 GB DGX Spark through vLLM and LiteLLM. Its chat model reached 120 tokens per second for one user and 359 in total across eight. Invoice extraction took 0.59 seconds with thinking off versus 12.1 seconds with it on. Generating an image while people chatted cut chat speed by about two thirds. Read the source.
Community benchmarks
Reddit and YouTube testers posted results this week for NVIDIA’s Nemotron 3.5 Bolt with a draft model on a single RTX 5090, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash on two 12 GB RTX 3060s, and large mixture-of-experts models on 16 GB Macs. These are self-reported and we could not check them. One warning: a r/LocalLLaMA post says the Strata engine’s latest update breaks Windows and Linux setups and drops the web UI.

Price moves
MiniMax M3.1 Flash lists at $0.15 input and $0.60 output per million tokens, per The New Stack, which also reports weights due October 23 per VentureBeat (source). Vercel’s free offer for it runs until October 20 (source). Inception’s Mercury 3 is on Vercel AI Gateway at 50% off launch pricing (source). Gemini 4 Argon’s API price still steps from $2/$10 to $4/$20 on December 1.
Hosted plans feel tighter
Users on r/codex, r/GeminiAI and r/ollama report usage caps and capacity errors on paid plans. None is confirmed by the vendors. The one confirmed item is Claude Code’s new usage-limit warning above. If a workflow matters, know what your fallback model is.

Gemini Notebook notes become sources
A post credited to the Gemini Notebook team on r/notebooklm says notes are moving into the Sources panel so chat and citations can use them, and that notes won’t count toward the source limit. We could not open the post or find it in Google’s help pages, so treat it as announced, not shipped.

Many AI vendor terms restrict benchmarking
A r/AI_Agents poster who says they read hundreds of AI vendor terms reports that a large share restrict benchmarking or competitive use, and some require permission before results are published. We could not check the dataset. Read the terms before publishing a review.
What we’d do this week
- Before October 27, decide which meeting types may post Gemini recaps to Chat, and set “Hosts and co-hosts only” for the rest.
- Add one plain line to every agent prompt: ask before any action outside the stated task, and never send, delete, publish or pay without approval.
- Post to your Google Business Profile weekly for a month and compare views with the month before.
- In GA4, split Direct traffic into engaged and total, and add a “How did you hear about us?” field with an “AI assistant” option.
