Daily AI Brief: Patch WordPress 7.1.4, Claude’s Legal Cite Check (Oct 29)

The most useful item today is also the least glamorous: WordPress 7.1.4, a security release out October 28. WordPress.org fixed a remote-code-execution risk in the upgrade process plus a long list of stored cross-site scripting bugs, and recommends updating immediately. If your business website runs WordPress, open Dashboard → Updates today and confirm you are on 7.1.4.

WordPress 7.1.4 fixes an upgrade-process RCE and a run of XSS bugs

WordPress 7.1.4 is a security release dated October 28. Per WordPress.org, it fixes a weakness in the upgrade process that can lead to remote code execution, a stored denial-of-service issue in the Interactivity API, stored XSS in several blocks, the Customizer, user logins and privacy requests, and two information-disclosure bugs. It also updates the bundled root certificates after the eMudhra revocation. Sites with automatic background updates will start updating on their own; everyone else should update now. It is free and takes a few minutes.

SafeAgents checks every agent tool call before it runs

SafeAgents is an Apache-2.0 proxy in a public Hugging Face repository. It sits between an agent and its model server and inspects each tool call, replacing blocked calls with a notice so nothing runs. A --log-only mode records what it would have flagged without changing behavior. The README lists support for Claude Code, Hermes and Pi, setup guides for 12 coding agents, and about 10 to 20 ms per check on an M-series Mac (project figures). It suits offices running agents unattended, especially ones that read web pages or email.

Claude for Legal adds ready-made artifacts, including Cite check

Anthropic added a gallery of ready-to-use artifacts to Claude for Legal on October 28: Cite check, Jurisdiction survey matrix, Matter board, Playbook deviation board, Regulatory horizon scan and Tabular review, plus partner tools from Goodwin, Harvey, Foley & Lardner and PwC and a set of access-to-justice tools, some limited to New York or D.C. law. Anthropic says Cite check “compares a legal document with its sources and flags quotes that don’t match,” along with wrong page numbers and sources that don’t support the claim, and that each output links to its source. It also says more than 60 legal connectors have been added since May, including Bloomberg Law and Filevine. The article gives no plan or price details, and no accuracy figures for Cite check, so small firms should confirm access before planning around it and keep a lawyer reviewing every flag.

SEO and AEO Tactics That Work Now

Pages cited by AI more often answer in the first lines

Search Engine Journal reports on a study by TJ Robertson of TJ Digital, which sells SEO and GEO services: 193,507 AI answers from ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews across 4,167 questions (August 27 to October 21). In blind ratings of 195 page pairs, cited pages opened with a direct answer 20% of the time, against 5% for Google top-10 pages the AI never pulled up. Against pages retrieved but not cited, the gap was 23% vs 14%. A year in the title, a date within 12 months, tables and first-hand experience were also linked to higher citation odds. Robertson calls these associations, not proof, so treat answer-first openings as a cheap test rather than a rule.

People don’t ask AI what they type into Google

iPullRank matched 16,310 US desktop users across two Datos panels (November 2024 data). Questions made up 26.8% of AI prompts vs 8.1% of Google searches, prompts averaged 8.4 words vs 4.2, and for 96% of AI prompts the same user didn’t search that topic on Google within 30 minutes. The advice: build AI-visibility prompt sets with both short and detailed versions, written from real roles and situations, and keep them stable. The data is from 2024 and ChatGPT was only 0.1% of the AI panel, so read it as direction, not current share.

Ahrefs adds AI Discoverability checks to Site Audit

Ahrefs’ September update (posted October 28) adds a first batch of AI Discoverability issues: pages blocked to AI bots in robots.txt, pages too slow or heavy for AI crawlers, inconsistent AI bot policies, similar AI-generated content, and pages that need JavaScript rendering. API and MCP unit limits doubled on every plan (Lite 100K to 200K). Which plans get the new checks is not stated. Without Ahrefs, the same list works as a free manual checklist.

AI agent checkouts may not show up in GA4

Seer Interactive argues that when an AI agent completes a purchase without loading your site, GA4 may never record the sale while your order system does. Its advice is to treat your order system or CRM as the source of truth and reconcile it with GA4 monthly before cutting any channel.

Liquid AI LFM3: open-weight models around 2B parameters

Liquid AI released LFM3 on October 27: a 1.7B text model with a 256K context, plus vision, audio and “omni” models around 2B. Liquid says the text model “fits in about 1 GB at 4-bit precision” and is post-trained to run inside agent apps such as Hermes Agent. Its vision model averages 71.4 across 62 benchmarks by Liquid’s own figures. The license is not named on the launch post, Ollama and LM Studio are not mentioned, and one Reddit user reported weak output with reasoning turned off. Worth a test for simple extraction on ordinary laptops; check the license first.

Hallmark, a design skill against “AI-looking” pages

Hallmark is a free, MIT-licensed skill for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode, credited to Together AI, installed with npx skills add nutlope/hallmark -g. Its /hallmark audit command reports generic-design tells without rewriting the page. One Reddit user’s A/B on a single brief found it faster and cheaper than the default; that is one person’s test, so watch for more.

Vercel: CI beta, virtual models, and alerts checked before paging

Vercel CI is in beta on all plans and runs only the tasks a change affects; Vercel reports “2-6x faster” push-to-passing times in its own repositories. AI Gateway “virtual models” let you swap the model behind one ID without redeploying. Vercel Agent can now check monitor alerts and forward only critical ones, on Pro and Enterprise with Observability Plus. Relevant only if your apps already run on Vercel.

What we’d do this week

  1. Update WordPress today. Log in to each site, check Dashboard → Updates, and confirm 7.1.4. If a developer or host manages the site, ask them to confirm in writing.
  2. Rewrite the opening of your top five service pages so the first one or two sentences answer the question the page is named for. Note the date so you can compare later.
  3. Add three persona-style prompts (“I run a 12-person accounting office and need…”) to whatever AI-visibility checks you run, next to your short keyword prompts.
  4. If you run agents unattended, put a log-only tool-call checker in front of one of them for a week and read what it flags.
