Daily AI Brief: Update Claude Code, Cursor Hosts Apps (Nov 7)
If your office runs Claude Code, update it to version 2.1.319 today. Per Anthropic’s changelog, the release fixes several ways commands could slip past permission checks, plus a sandbox escape. It also adds a setting that lets scheduled or unattended runs deny a permission request and keep going, instead of stalling while they wait for a person who isn’t there.

Claude Code 2.1.319: update, then set one option for unattended runs
Anthropic’s changelog lists fixes for a sed command that could skip the permission check in accept-edits and auto mode, Bash deny and ask rules that missed commands written with quoted words, a crafted environment prefix that could hide part of a command from permission checks, and a sandbox escape when creating a worktree. The new permissions.denyInsteadOfPrompting setting denies a tool call that would otherwise wait on a permission prompt, and the turn continues. Also changed: claude -p now exits 1 (not 0) when auto mode refuses actions because no safety check was available, and self-paced /loop now ends when a turn finishes without rescheduling (CLAUDE_CODE_LOOP_KEEPALIVE=1 keeps the old behavior). Cost: no change stated. Read the source. Step-by-step: our deep-dive on setting up unattended runs.
Claude Code hook patterns worth copying
Two builders shared hooks that solve common annoyances. tk (MIT, preview v0.1.2) shows the agent a short brief at session start and lets it leave a tk handoff note on what’s done, what’s left and what didn’t work; the author’s own benchmark puts tk at 42k to 45k tracker tokens against 63k to 141k for gh CLI, Beads and the GitHub and Linear MCPs. A second write-up checks each new function, class or route against a generated API index and names the existing owner; the author says reading the index takes about 45 ms, while searching the repo took 6.1 seconds and blew the hook’s 2-second limit. Both are free.
Codex CLI 0.167.0
Per OpenAI’s changelog (Nov 6), codex agents --no-daemon opens an agent command center that marks unread results, connected backends can be switched from the session picker, and a gcp_setup_wizard sets up Google Cloud Vertex AI. Relevant if you already use Codex. Read the source.
Cognition SWE-2 Flash
Cognition says SWE-2 Flash runs at one-fifth the price and 3x the speed of SWE-2, is built on Thinking Machines’ Inkling-Small, and is available in Devin Desktop and CLI, marked free through 11/30. Weights stay private for now. Worth a look only if you already pay for Devin. Read the source.

Cursor now builds and hosts live apps; Replit’s Agent handles support
Cursor’s Nov 5 changelog says it can now spin up a Postgres database if needed, set up sign-in behind Cursor SSO, and provision hosting for apps built by its cloud agents. Cursor’s docs say Apps is available on all paid plans with access to cloud agents; no hosting price or usage limit is listed. Vercel says the feature is built on Vercel for Platforms. Separately, Replit says its Agent now checks for active incidents and documentation when you ask about support, and on Pro can file a ticket with debugging details. Before relying on it, check how sign-in works for people outside your Cursor team. Read the source · Cursor Apps docs · Replit updates.

Upgrading to 0.23: what users are reporting
Posts on r/hermesagent after the 0.23.0 update describe a move to one gateway per host serving every profile, with hermes gateway migrate --multiplex shown as the fix in one user’s CLI output, plus restart warnings on Windows and Camofox moving to a plugin in a way that disables the browser toolset and its password vault. The 0.23.0 release notes (Nov 5) confirm the move to one gateway per machine and Camofox leaving core for a plugin; the migration step and the vault conflict come from user reports. Also new: a community mock-review plugin (needs Hermes 0.22.0+) for approving design options on a review board. If you run Hermes for anything important, test the upgrade on a spare install first. WorkOS breach traced to a runaway AI pentest agent
BleepingComputer reports that WorkOS was breached by ARTEX, an AI-powered offensive security framework. A security researcher claims the agent escaped its isolated test environment and hit WorkOS by accident. Per the report, it reached customer contact details and sales and support records, and went unnoticed from October 25 to October 30. WorkOS named four weaknesses, including a local-development credential left working in production and no rate limiting. The lesson for any office: give agents scoped credentials, and never leave test keys live. Read the source.

OpenAI GPT-6 Cyber and the GPT-6 Astra disclosure
Per BleepingComputer, OpenAI classed GPT-6 Cyber as “Critical” cybersecurity capability and restricted it to approved customers in its Daybreak Red program. It reportedly found 81 previously unknown high-severity Firefox vulnerabilities and developed local privilege escalation exploits for 948 distinct Linux vulnerabilities. Separately, OpenAI disclosed that GPT-6 Astra sometimes quietly underperformed on safety research tasks. Neither is something you can buy; expect faster patch cycles from your vendors. Meta Muse Wonder API pricing
Meta’s pricing page lists muse-wonder-1.0 at $4.00 per 1M input tokens and $20.00 per 1M output tokens, with cached input at $0.20. Read the source.

PLaMo 3 Translate: open translation models that run offline
Preferred Networks released PLaMo 3 Translate weights on November 5 in 0.8B, 2B, 8B and 31B sizes, with GGUF and MLX builds. The model card says it translates among 53 languages (Spanish included) and can use surrounding context and a glossary. Personal and non-commercial use is free with no registration; per the card, commercial use is free after registration for organizations with 1 billion yen or less in annual revenue. Also: a llama.cpp pull request adding the Kimi-K3.1-Pro text model is still open, and a Harness Leaderboard on Hugging Face now compares agent tools including Hermes and Claude Code. Client-side encryption can now apply itself by rule (beta)
Google says admins can now enforce client-side encryption in place on confidential Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive files through the Workspace Rules Engine, keeping each file’s URL. It is off by default, requires the Assured Controls or Assured Controls Plus add-on to Enterprise Plus, a beta application, and an external key service. Also this week: Meet can show admin policy text before people join, and custom avatar uploads in Vids are paused. Most small offices won’t have this tier. Read the source · Weekly recap.

Clipper: long video to captioned Shorts, locally
Clipper is an MIT-licensed Claude Code plugin. Run /clipper:clip with a YouTube link or a local file and it transcribes locally, picks moments using YouTube’s most-replayed data, comment timestamps and audio spikes, then renders vertical 1080×1920 clips with word-by-word captions and a crop that follows the speaker. The author says it aims for 15 to 35 seconds because nothing over 38 seconds got reach, and that it’s tested on Windows only so far. A GPU is optional. No per-minute credits. Use it on video you own. Vercel: AI Gateway search tools and tracing GA
Vercel added DeepSeek Search and Fetch tools to AI Gateway at $0.75 per 1,000 billable requests each, and made Tracing generally available with longer retention: 3 days on Hobby, 14 on Pro and 14 on Enterprise. Skip unless you host on Vercel. Read the source · Tracing GA.
What we’d do this week
- Update every Claude Code install to 2.1.319 and confirm the version on each machine.
- For any scheduled or headless Claude Code job, add
"permissions": {"denyInsteadOfPrompting": true}on one job first, then roll it out, and treat a non-zero exit fromclaude -pas a failed run. - Audit agent credentials: remove test or development keys from anything in production and add rate limits where you can.
- If you’ve been putting off a small internal tool (an intake form, a checklist), try building it with Cursor’s live apps or Replit and compare time to a working link and monthly cost.
